SPOON HARNESSES

Very sorry for the delay in getting this posted.  We've again been tinkering with the Spoon Harness and in late May, finally arrived at a setup that works and works well.  It's simply the business end of a trolling harness attached to our favorite spoon.  For the past several seasons, I've been a guest at different club meetings such as the WBSA.  I've also shared this with many in person while chatting on our Lake Erie Walleye.  Anyway, since the 03 class has come of age, I have alluded to my belief that what these larger fish want most in a bait of course, is something that matches the forage in size, namely White Perch, Smelt and Yellow Perch.  For the two seasons prior to this, I'm told the Canadian Trawlers did not harvest Smelt so there is an abundance of large forage in the Lake.  It's why I believe harnesses have been so productive and spoons have not been as productive for some.  It's why once we attached a worm rig to a spoon, the spoons became much more productive as with the worm, the rig is the length that the Walleye are favoring for their fare.  I've offered a variety of spoon harnesses and different styles of harnesses for several years knowing they would work and they do.  This was a report I posted after three days of fishing out of Vermilion in late July where the spoon harness ruled in it's current form.  And nothing has changed in the past month on it's productivity.  Stop over to Bad Boy's Bait in Vermilion, Mark's Live Bait and Tackle in Ravenna or Jarvis Rig's and Jigs in Jarvis, Ontario, Canada and check em out.  Some local competitors already have and are offering their own version at nearly $7.00 each!  Or send me an email with a spoon order and I'll rig em up for ya!

Full limits aboard the Bad Boy at the end of July were in order.  Yours truly deckhand!  Fished due North of Vermilion near the border.  Jets, 120 back, dipsy's down deep.  Both produced equally well.  Orange spoons and spoon harnesses produced the majority of our fish.  Other patterns that worked well were Cheap Sunglasses spoon, Bad Boy Harness (10# fish pictured), OGF Spotted Hawg, Pink Squirrel, Spicy Chicken Wing and Listerine.  Had a third trip August 1st, full limits again, but no pictures on that trip, yet.  Fishing has been good to say the least.

WILLOWLEAF HARNESS

Here once again, is a real nice Walleye caught in 2005 on a Boy/Girl Wire Trolling harness.  At the time, the gentlemen pictured was a customer/lure tester.  At present, he's a competitor and features the old fish on a competing site as if caught on competing tackle.  Guess some fish are harder to beat than others!  His original test report located at ohfishing.com follows.

We all know certain colors are hot on different days and different times of the year. So I'm not going to give testament to any color combo's. I am going to just tell you what I think of the harnesses quality and their performance under different conditions. Fished Lake Erie 9/21/05 out of Ashtabula a decided to give Ole Pete's Willow Harnesses a fair shake. They were pulled behind dipsy divers at speeds of 2.2-2.7mph and the performed flawlessly even up to 3.5mph which I simply did to try to get them twist, porpoise or run erratic. This was not found in the course of 4 hours. The leader from the dipsy on both ends had just good cross-lock swivels and not ball bearing swivels, this was done on purpose. The black plastic coated wire and crimped tie eye, center crimped sleeve to keep the blades from binding under pressure are something you only see in top of the line terminal tackle. The paint on the blades and the hooks held up great even with multiple hook up and landings of walleyes of 17"-31 1/4" a total of 20 fish. If any fish would have destroyed the harness it would have been the 31 1/4" honey who had it down almost to her gullet.
Be assured if you buy Ole Pete's your getting QUALITY !

HORNET SPOONS

Money Trolling Spoon

Tester:  Captain Larry Woods/Bad Boy Charters

Went out tonight, by myself, east of the park in 20- 25 fow to kill a few hours trying-out some new Ole Petes. Took 7 walleye in 30 minutes. Was really disappointed, I only got to run three lures and one caught all the fish. would have been done in 25 minutes, but lost one trying to net it in the prop wash. Did not catch one junk fish. Used dipsys 1 1/2 back 40 which caught all the fish and the 3 back 55.  Fish are seriously stacked up

Ole Pete I need 6 more Money lures ASAP
(Posted on Dave's Bait Forum after testing)7/28/06. Via email:
Via email:  Fished using BadBoy's Money tonight and I have to tell you I've NEVER used a hotter lure. I seriously need a least six more whenever your back to making some up.  I will try to run a few others tomorrow and Sunday.
THANKS,  Larry

These spoons seem to have good action and flutter pattern, we pulled ours off small dipsys, with the Red Wolf swivels again, without line twisting problems. Was going to run 2 on jets off the boards but four rods in kept us too busy, mostly pulling spikes and junkfish but some good eaters were mixed in. The search for fish was a little tough and most keepers were pulled in the last 11/2 hour west of Green Island in 32ft water. Sorry for the lack of hook in mouth pictures but a discharged camera battery allowed only 1 picture but the total catch photo shows all keepers and about 50/50 with harnesses being represented. Two weeks and all finish is intact, still early for durability comments. BTW I had all these sent with red trebles as you can order and Don will build. Dave's Bait in Vermillion has a little in stock and I'm sure you can order through him as well.

SILVER LEAFS

Don, It was nice to meet you also, we got hung up this am from the railroad bridge and by the time we got gas and such it was getting late.  Picked up some minnows, the radio wasn't soundin too good on the 'eyes' so we went perchin, limited in a couple hours, then went out trollin.  My friends had been since daylite and only had 2 in  the box then.  We set up, worked thru scattered fish, ended up with 7 for 9 (2 hogs lost at the boat) about 4 short strikes on harnesses, missed. We used: melon spoon, hammered melon harness, SILVERLEAF SPOONS:  Confusion Boy/Girl Ice.  Yep That's Alex, championship turkey.  I have known him since 1969.  He was very impressed with the baits.  Everything worked fine that we ran, Didn't change what was working.  Will run the others next trip.

Yeah folks, Van is talking about the best darn Turkey caller on the planet in my opinion, Alex Vedrinski.  Go to the Cleveland sport show next spring and you'll hear what I mean as soon as you walk in the door.   And while he can do it without a call, the calls his company makes are the best thing going. I've harvested two turkeys with his calls in the course of my limited time afield.  One opening day in the Montville area, I called a Tom in right off the roost with a Chestnut Ridge call and had my second turkey to show for it.  After tagging and dressing my bird, I located a friend nearby.  He said he had a bird across a swamp that he was unable to budge with his calling.  I setup 50 yards behind him in a pine thicket and started calling.  From where I sat, I could not see my friend or a bird when I started the chorus and I had my doubts one was still in the area.  That Ole Tom started talking to me right away.  For about 15 minutes we had the neatest conversation, that Tom and I, with he getting closer and closer all the while.  I could tell by that Toms voice, he was moving around the swamp to get to the hen he was sweet talking.  Then, my buddies gun boomed and the rest in history.  By the time I got to my friend, Big John, he held his first Tom Turkey and his grin was as big as the whole outdoors .  Sitting there calling to a bird with a call as good as the birds, was without a doubt the most exhilarating time I've ever had in the woods.  There was no distraction of a gun, no looking for a bird to come in; just the sounds of a great spring adventure.  Great, Great product and anyone using his calls can't help but sound a ton better to Ole Tom Turkey.  It sure has helped me and so my thanks to Alex.

Check out the Max's muffin as well it worked well for us in the trolling harness with purple with green glow beads.

The supplied ball bearings (RED WOLF) seemed to work flawlessly and that may make some Sampo addicts cringe but none have come apart and twist was not encountered, even with a couple tangles in the spread. The supplied snell holders were top shelf and we can fit three per row in a 3700 tackle tray, good-bye water noodles!!!!All in all a great product for the money. The only drawback may be the finish on the hooks, which chipped where handled with hook extractors, that was my .5 point deduction.

We will be showing some unique blade color offerings, as playtime is in full swing with some test blades supplied with my last order from Ole Pete's. Testing these products is almost as much as a charge as catching the fish for us and I have slipped away from my normal go to stuff as this was the second week of running entirely Ole Pete's with the exception of running a large holographic producers spoon as an attempt to ward off the little eyes and junk fish, btw it did not work,6 inch white bass takes 4 inch spoon....lol....Dave's Bait in Vermillion is handling this product on shelf as well as some Charleez products which are made by Charlie at the shop. Stop in and see what he has to offer, you wont go away disappointed.

I have to test their durability on the river rocks next ,but so far I'm impressed. Great color schemes, although I would like to have a natural shad pattern. I was throwing over a hump and reeling toward the bank at an angle, while holding my mouth just right when I caught the biggest bass. These cranks are great so far.

I fished 7/22 in the evening when it was cloudy at Sandy Creek. I caught 9 small largemouth out of 4' of water . I also caught a 10" smallie right at dark

Tester Notes:  FisherMOM on Ole Pete's Johnson Trout Spin. I have tossed this a few times in a creek as well as the pond and find that in performs fantastically! I cannot WAIT to do some serious trout fishing with it! As you can see, I just needed to try it on crappie, but caught a large bass on micro ultra light tackle! It was very fun!  This spinner is incredible. No matter how fast or slow that I retrieve it, the spinner seems to spin well. I have used other spinners where this is not so. Also, when I retrieve it quickly, it does not roll!  It pulls through the weeds well, and basically performs wonderful!  Hopefully the trout that I fish for will be interested in this lure....I can tell that the bass are~! Funny thing is I caught this bass in an area of the pond where I have never caught a bass before, and I fish here often!
